Sharing a bed with the youngest family member is becoming increasingly popular. Bed-sharing or bedside co sleeper is great and safe option for parents who want to sleep as close as possible to their baby. It provides more rest and convenience, especially in the early weeks/months when mom is feeding around the clock. A co-sleeper is also a life saver for a mom who had a c-section and finds getting out of bed feed too painful.
Whether you choose a bed-sharing or bedside co sleeper depends on the size of your bed and/or bedroom and your preferences. To help you decide what is the best option for you, we have chosen best and safest co-sleepers available out there. We hope that you’ll find one you and your baby will enjoy.
Great and Safe Co Sleeper as a First Sleeping Option For Parents and Newborn
The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper is one of the best and safest co sleepers. Perfect for parents who’d love to have their baby in family bed for the first few months. A safe and comfortable place to co sleep and bond with the parents. It has walls to keep the baby from rolling out and/or parent rolling over their baby. And the end has a barrier that prevents the baby from sliding down into the vast ocean of family bed
Also, it makes easy for moms to take care and feed the baby at night, especially during their every-2 hour newborn feeding stage, all you need to do is raise your head up to check up on or feed your little one.
Perfect for nursing
While you can’t nurse the baby when he’s in the sleeper but it’s easy to lift them up even from a lying-down position. And when you’re done, just put them back gently. This is also ideal for women who have had c-sections because it is much easier just to roll or lean over to take care or feed the baby and they don’t have to get in and out of bed several times a night.
A lot of parents equip their night stand with formula, bottles, wipes and diapers. So they have everything set up and when the little one needs something they have everything close by and can take care of the baby without getting out of bed and go back to sleep when they are done.
Another great feature is the built-in night light. It is perfect for feedings or when you have to wake up in the middle on a night to check if your tiny one is doing OK. It gives enough visibility and doesn’t disturb or hurt eyes. The battery last very long so you don’t have to worry about changing it often.
It has everything you need. No extra bedding is required. It comes with a removable and machine washable mattress cover. Unfortunately, you can’t buy extra sheets that go with it. However, if you need some backup, there are few alternatives. Many parents use a standard pillow case over the mattress, and it works perfect for them, others use a receiving blanket or a bassinet sheet, and that works for them too.
The mattress/pad is waterproof and can be easily wiped clean. The entire bed has a removable and machine-washable cotton cover. Just unzip it and remove it from the frame, put it into the washing machine. Once you remove the cover and plastic support and the frame can be easily hand wash.
Best suited for
King size bed: Perfect for parents who have a king size bed. You’ll have absolutely no problems having this co sleeper in the middle of your bed with plenty of space left for you and your husband to have a good night sleep and enjoy having your baby close to you.
Queen size bed: It does work for some parents who have a queen size bed. But it depends on how big the parents are and if they need a lot of personal space to sleep. Below you’ll find the dimensions, based on that; you’ll have to determine if it will work for you in a queen size bed.
Also, you can use it inside a crib. Which is perfect for transitioning baby from family bed to a crib.
Dimensions: The sleeper is about 26″ long and 17″ across.
Age rage for this sleeper
It works for parents from birth up to 4-6 months. But how long you’ll be using it depends on how tall is your baby and how fast it matures.
Here is the average baby length from birth to 6 months:
Boys: 19.1 – 20.1 inches
Girls: 18.9 – 19.8 inches
Boys: 23.6 – 24.7 inches
Girls: 23.0 – 24.1 inches
Boys: 26.1 – 27.2 inches
Girls: 25.3 – 26.5 inches
Since the sleeper is about 26″ long and 17″ across and you have a baby of average length, you should be okay using in until at least your baby is 4-5 months old. But again it depends on the baby, if your baby is tall or matures fast, you might have to stop using it when the baby is 3 months old.
Unfortunately, the “bumper” at the bottom that prevents the baby from sliding off is not removable, so you can’t extend the use of the sleeper when your baby is longer than the dimensions of the sleeper. If you want to, you’d have to cut it out, which some parents have done, and it worked for them until the baby was 7-8 months old.
The co sleeper is very sturdy and well made. It will not collapse on the baby. The sides have a mesh portion, so you don’t have to worry about the lack of oxygen if the baby turns their head towards the side. You can even lay your arm over it to easily reach your child and touch it while they are sleeping. Being able to feel every movement of the baby give moms a lot of comforts knowing that the baby is safe.
Also, one of the few co sleepers on the market that has built-in slats on the sides. In the event baby pressed their face against it; they can breathe. The bottom is soft but hard enough to prevent SIDS.
It is portable and folds in half for travel. You can put it in the living room during the day and bedroom during the night. Take it with you for sleepovers at grandma’s or vacations so your baby always has a familiar bed to sleep in.
Great product, it allows parents to share a bed with their baby safely and makes nursing and mother’s life much easier in those first few weeks/months of baby’s life. Excellent for traveling, or naps on the couch in the living room without major rearranging. Definitely worth the price for the convenience, practicality, and security even if you’ll use it for a short period of time.
Baby Delight Baby Delight Snuggle Nest Surround Portable Infant Sleeper
Baby Delight Snuggle Nest Surround Portable Infant Sleeper is another excellent choice. It makes easy to co sleep with the baby, and you don’t have to worry about baby’s safety. You can nurse or check up on your little one without getting out of bed, which is perfect for those 3 am feedings. And the nightlight feature enables you to look at your baby in the middle of the night without turning on any lamps.
Easy to move around the house for let’s say daytime naps on the couch. Super portable and folds easily so you can take it along with you for short visits, overnight trips or trips to the cabin.
Comfort for your baby
What’s different about this co-sleeper is that it has wedge type piece that can be used to create a gentle slope for your baby. A lot of babies prefer to sleep at an angle rather than on a flat surface. The angle is similar to the beds used in most hospitals. One more ‘tool’ that you can use if your baby has trouble falling asleep.
The incline can also help relieve colic symptoms or can be used to keep the baby upright right after feeding.
Also, some parents use is as a transitioning tool to slowly prepare the baby to sleep on a flatter surface like in a crib when he/she’s a bit older. And best of all the incline is removable, so it is entirely up to you when and how you want to use it.
You’ll love that the walls are made of a breathable fabric, so that if your baby does end up against the side, they can still breathe. The mesh inlays allow for excellent airflow. It is fully enclosed so the baby can’t slide downwards.
Perfect for breastfeeding
The sides are flexible and firm enough to keep newborn contained and parents away from the baby but not too high to make it hard to pick him/her up for nursing during the night. You can easily reach in and pull your little one out to nurse without worrying that you’ll invade baby’s space:-) Perfect for those middle of the night feedings.
And the night light and sounds make it even better. It enables you to look at your baby in the middle of the night without turning any lamps on or disturbing him or her. BTY, the light is removable so that you can use it as a kind of flashlight.
The sounds which have five-level volume control and automatic shutoff plays soothing lullabies or calming womb sounds. Apparently, the womb sound lulls little ones back to sleep every time they hear it.
The mattress padding is fine for a baby; it may feel firm for an adult, but babies shouldn’t sleep on a soft mattress, also keep in mind that if the baby is swaddled, they won’t mind the feel of it. Moreover, your comfortable bed is supporting the sleeper as well.
It comes with a mattress cover/sheet, if you need extra as a back up for the spitter upper moments, you can purchase them separately. Baby Delight Snuggle Nest Surround Oval Envelope Sheets work well with this sleeper. They are available on amazon. .
For extra comfort, you can put a soft blanket over the sheet and tuck it in around all the sides.
It does take a bit of space, after all; the little one needs some room too But you won’t have any trouble if you sleep in a king size bed. There will be plenty of space for your baby, you and your partner and maybe a cat or a dog, depending on how big they are and all of you will sleep very comfortably.
As for queen size bed with 2 adults, well, the debate is still going on some find it just fine, some a little bit too tight, honestly, it will depend on how big the parents are, sleep patterns, do you sleep on your back or side? And how much “personal” space they need when they sleep. If you need a lot, this is not for queen size bed. But if you are on the smaller side or don’t mind cuddling up, you will be fine.
Again, no problems if you sleep in a king size bed, but when it comes to queen size, it’s a personal decision that you have to make considering all the factors mentioned above.
To give you an idea how big it is here are the dimensions:
Exterior measures 28″ L x 15.5″ W x 5.5″ H (open); 12″ L x 15.5″ W x 10.5″ H (closed)
Interior measures 26.5″ L x 14″ W x 5″ H
Safe and portable
It is very sturdy and safe. You won’t have any issues with your baby rolling out of the nest.
It folds in half nice and compactly which is perfect for on the go if you need to take your newborn out of town. The velcro strap secures it closed, making it easy to pack and move when traveling. It isn’t bulky, and when folded, the flat surfaces also allow for it to be stored on a shelf.
Easy to clean
The mattress is wipe-able. If the mattress sheet gets stained, it is easily washable; the sides can easily be cleaned as well, and the sheets are washable.
There is no weight limit. The only limitation is the max length of the baby. It is designed for babies from 0 – 5 months or until the baby begins to push up or roll over. How long you’ll using it, will depend on how fast your baby matures. See the short video below to get an idea how baby fits in it.
All in all, the Snuggle Nest Surround is a great co-sleeper for anyone who wants to co-sleep with their newborn and makes those late night feedings so much easier. With the SnuggleNest, you have your baby next to you anywhere, on the couch, on the bed, and if they fall asleep, pick up the whole co-sleeper and move them to the crib. Available in 3 colors.
Summer Infant by Your Side Sleeper
Summer Infant by Your Side Sleeper is another great co sleeper. It provides a safe and spacious sleeping room for baby. It has a clear view of baby for parents piece of mind, mesh sides to help air circulate better.
Highly recommended to anyone who wants to co-sleep with their baby. A space saver, and lightweight, you can take it everywhere with you. Flexible too, use it in the family bed or next to it, or anywhere around the house. Even though it has a short life as your baby will grow out of it, but you will find yourself using and enjoying it every day.
Comfortable for the baby and parents. What makes this co sleeper different is the sturdy metal frame that protects baby from parents rolling over. Even if you accidentally bump into it, it won’t hurt you.
The mattress is comfortable, but you don’t have the option to elevate it a bit higher like you do in Baby Delight Baby Delight Snuggle Nest. However, if you feel that your baby’s head needs to be elevated a bit, you could use a blanket.
It includes mattress pad and one fitted sheet that’s removable and washable. If you need a backup, you can but extra sheets on Amazon. Summer Infant Bassinets Sheets fit this co-sleeper very well, they are 100% cotton. A pack of 2 sales for less than $7.00.
No issues if you have king size bed. Plenty of room for everyone. As for a queen size bed, it works fine for some parents; some find it tight. So it will depend on the size of parents and their sleeping patterns.
Here are the measurements:
32 L x 14.5 W x 11 H and the mattress pad is 29″ x 13 1/2″
From birth to 5-6 months. Again, how long you’ll be using it, depends on how fast your baby will grow. Stop using it when the child begins to push up or starts to roll over.
Portable and flexible
The sleeper is perfect for travel. It folds easily in half and even has a carrying handle. Or you can pack it in a suitcase. You can take it on vacations, friends place, and family visits, so your little one has his place to sleep in. Because it is much lighter and smaller, it is a perfect alternative to a pack n play.
Flexible and lightweight. You can use it anywhere around the house. In the parents’ bed or next to the bed or living room during the day. Easy to move between rooms with the baby in it without disturbing them.
The quality of the product is great. The mesh sides provide plenty of air flow and protect your baby from overheating and give parents a piece of mind that their little one is safe. The whole build is very sturdy.
Frame and pad can be wiped clean with damp cloth and air dry it.
The sheet is machine washable in warm water. Tumble dry on low heat.
What moms love:
Clear view of baby for parents piece of mind
Easy view mesh
Sturdy metal frame
Soft comfortable fabrics
It doesn’t have extra features and doesn’t have night light either. It is only a fold up portable bed/co sleeper.
Great co sleeper that gives parents piece of mind knowing that their baby is safe and close to them without worrying that they would roll over onto him/her.
A newer version is available on amazon, the new model has top and side frames padded and the design is more modern.

Ease of Use
One feature that sets it apart from the competitors is the fact that some models can be used as either, co-sleeper, bassinet and/or changing table. Which is perfect for parents who may realize that co sleeping is not the best option for them so they can still use it as a free-standing bassinet/changing table. Most models have mesh pockets and/or underneath storage which you can use for blankets, diapers, and other nursing supplies or anything else you may want to have close by.

Both, liner and the sheet are washable.

HALO Bassinest Swivel Sleeper
This is one of the best co sleepers out there, especially for C-section moms. With 360° rotation, you can rotate the baby out the way and easily get out of bed. And with adjustable height and 360° swivel you can have your little one as close to you as you want. I could go on and describe all the features, but this is one of the products that I think to get a clear idea what is all about and what it can do for you, you have to see it. So here is short about 2 min. video. Any extra info that you might need is below.
It comes with a waterproof mattress and a fitted sheet. The mattress is about 3/4 – 1 inch thick, it may feel thin to you, but remember a tiny little one will sleep on it, so it perfect and comfortable for a baby. There is no need for need for an additional mattress. If you want to make it a bit more comfortable, you can use a blanket.
Extra hourglass shaped sheets are available on amazon.
Soothing center, vibration, nursing timer and night light
Comes with 2 levels of vibration, nursing timer, 3 soothing sounds, and 3 lullabies. The music tones are soft and yet soothing for the baby and apparently for parents too If not turned off manually the music/sounds will automatically shut off after 30-minutes. You can play the music and have the vibration ON simultaneously (requires 3 AA batteries – not included)
The nursing timer will wake you up in case you’re feeding at night having your baby in your arms and might fall asleep.
It has built-in nightlight with adjustable brightness.
It also has nice side pocket where you can fit 2 newborn diapers, wipes, pacifier, etc.
Base tucks under the bed making it perfect for small spaces. It fits beds from 22 to 34 in. (56 to 86 cm) tall. If you have a low frame bed, you need 2-3 inches clearance to be able to slide the feet under the bed.
Very stable and extremely sturdy. Those legs at the bottom are heavy and sturdy. Once you place this bassinet, it stays where you put it. It will not topple over even if a toddler bumped into it or dog jumps on it, or if you accidentally swing your arm against the side during sleep. It doesn’t move.
Easy to clean. The sheet is machine washable. The bassinet, rail bumpers, and the mattress can be cleaned regularly using a mild cleaning solution and a damp cloth.
Use from newborn up to 5 – 6 months or 30 lbs.
- It has no wheels and is not portable.
- You can not detach the bassinet portion and use it without the base.
- The side wall does have a lock to prevent it from pushing down. But it does not lock when it is in ‘pushed down’ position.
Less expensive model is available without the music center
A great alternative to co-sleepers are baby rock and play sleepers.
