For many parents, a baby swing is a must have in their house. Some call the best invention in baby gears; some, God sent ‘sanity saver’ as it can soothe, calm and cuddle even the fussiest baby. As they imitate the rhythmic rocking motion of the womb and work magic on your baby.
The usage time is relatively short, at the most 6-7 maybe 8 months from the birth of your LO (some moms push it further), and you may be asking yourself if it’s worth the money.
Let us put it this way, if you can afford it, the investment will pay for itself many times over. It’s not the 6-8 months that count. It’s the days in and days out that will make the difference in terms of freeing up your time to have hands free moments to sit down and do whatever you want. Be it relax, take care of other things in your house knowing that your baby is in a safe place.
With so many choices available out there choosing one can be a time-consuming task. To help you out we’ve come up with a list of highly rated, best-selling baby swings from basic to portable to stationary. We hope that you’ll find one that you and your baby will enjoy. And like many other moms and dads will call it a lifesaver too.
Very Versatile Fisher-Price Deluxe Take Along Swing
Fisher-Price Deluxe Take Along Swing and Seat is small but impressive. It has all the essentials you need: swinging (swings at a nice pace (6 settings) unlike some swings out there that barely move), vibrations, safety harness, music, and a toy bar. The toy bar is pretty basic and has two dangling birds at arms reach but you can easily add more colorful toys on the bar. It swings only from front to back; it doesn’t swing side to side.
Extremely sturdy, well made, and supports baby’s back and head perfectly. The fabric is super soft with thick padding and very comfortable. The wide base makes this swing very sturdy. It locks into place which makes it much easier to get a baby in and out. The lock function also easily converts it from swing to stationary seat which is perfect for feeding.
Space saver and portable: Compact space saving design. It folds for easy transport or storage. It doesn’t take up too much space and easy to get it out of the way. Won’t clutter your house either. The top bar is very strong and you’ll able to carry your baby in one hand and lift swing with the other to move to different areas in your house. Perfect for a small house or an apartment. The legs have good traction and don’t skid.
Swing motion: The swing function has 6 different speed settings so that you can find the perfect ‘swing’ for your baby. And as you can imagine babies love it. Apparently, the swing motion sends babies to sleep within a few minutes of swinging without fail 🙂 The swing motor is very quiet and won’t wake your baby up in case they fall asleep in it.
Vibrate Option: There is also a calming vibration option which was very helpful to put your baby to sleep. You can have the swing and vibrate ON at the same time or just one of them.
Music: It has built-in music, 6 songs, and sounds. You can rotate the music every 10-15 minutes. The tunes are lovely and soothing. Babies love it. For parents, the music is a hit or miss. Which is normal when it comes to baby gears. If you find yourself on the ‘don’t like’ side, you can adjust the volume, (it has 2 volume settings) or you can turn it off. Hopefully, the baby won’t cry 🙂
Battery: You will need 4 C batteries for the swing, music, and vibration. Batteries typically last from a few days to 2-3 weeks depending on the type of battery and use and how often you use it. Best is to have 8 rechargeable batteries. This way you’ll have in use and 4 charging ready to use them. To replace the battery you need a small Philip screwdriver. There are a few complaints about that but keep in mind that the box holding the batteries designed with baby’s safety in mind. You wouldn’t want a baby to accidentally open the box and play with the batteries. Its only power source is batteries; it does not have an AC adaptor to plug it into a wall. It doesn’t have a timer so you have to remember to turn it OFF if you don’t want to use it. There is a small green light indicating when the swing is on.
Easy to clean: The cover comes off easily to wash, dries fast and doesn’t fade quickly. You can wash the plastic parts with a washcloth.
Easy to assemble: Assembly is easy if you read the instructions, and it shouldn’t take more than 15 mins.
Overall this a great basic multi-purpose swing and worth the money. The vast majority of parents are extremely happy with it. Not cheaply made and very durable. It doesn’t squeak or a creak. You’ll be surprised how practical a smaller swing can be. Available in 3 different styles.
Price Range: $68.99 – 79.99
Excellent Affordable Baby Swing and That Folds Flat
Swing your baby in this cozy, fun, portable swing. Ideal for small rooms too. This is a great alternative to traditional swings and provides a safe place to put your baby when mom or dad has to do other things.
Comfy, relaxing and very entertaining. Lovely design and beautiful neutral colors. It has plenty of options. The seat has 2 different reclining positions and 6 different swing speeds, music and a bar above with plush toys to keep your baby entertained. Settings are easily adjustable. Seat pad and the little animals are washable. Portable and folds easily.
Seat: It has 2 seating positions. Nearly fully reclined recline and upright. The upright position is great when you start to feed solids and to give them a different outlook as they grow and start to focus and explore the environment surrounding them.
Do NOT use the upright position until your baby is 3 + months old as the angle seems to be too severe for an infant. Until your baby is 3-month-old, only use the seat in full recline. When in full recline, the seat lays back with a slight incline which is perfect for infants. So you don’t have to worry that your baby will lie flat in this swing.
The swing works very well from an infant to 6-7 months old providing it is used correctly.
The chair is soft, comfy and well padded including the headrest. The adjustable restraining straps will keep your baby secure at all times. It’s perfectly safe for the baby to take a nap in it or just to chill out.
To make baby’s entertainment complete there is an easily detachable cushioned toy bar with 2 cute soft brightly colored animals. You can always add more toys if needed.
The seat does NOT vibrate. Also, the chair does NOT lock into place like Fisher-Price SpaceSaver. Since it’s low to the ground, some parents may find difficult to get their baby in and out of this swing.
Swing motion: The swing movement is smooth and has a good range. It has 6 easy to adjust speed controls to suit your baby and their mood. From gentle to more vigorous. This is great whether you want to ‘swing’ your baby to sleep or for entertainment.
There is an auto shut-off feature. You can set the timer for how long the swing should go for 15, 30 or 45 minutes. If you do not select a timer setting the swing will auto-shutoff after 60 minutes. The music has auto-shutoff after 15 minutes.
The motor is very quiet and won’t disturb your baby.
It only swings back and forth. It does not swing side to side.
Music: The music (6 original melodies) is lovely, calm and soothing without being annoying to parents 🙂 It has 2 volume settings to allow for quieter settings like nap or meal times or louder for fun.
Portable and folds flat: This swing is perfect for small spaces and folds flat when not in use or for travel.
Age range: Suitable from birth to max 20 lbs which is around 6-7 months. Once your baby can sit up unsupported and move around you should stop using it.
To get maximum use out of it, we recommend getting it at or before birth. Well made and should last for several children.
The seat pad and head support are machine washable.
Assembly: It comes with clear instructions so the assembly is straightforward. You will need a screwdriver.
Batteries: For the swing and music, you’ll need 4 C batteries. You can still swing it manually if the battery is dead. It does not support an AC adapter.
Overall a great swing for a baby, it has all the essentials needed for a good swing. It’s very comfy, some parents are asking if they make them for adults too 🙂
Like most baby swings most probably you’ll be using it until your child is 6-7 months old. It is a short period of time, but it will really pay for itself many times over regarding freeing you up to have hands free moments to sit down and have a cup of coffee or to do something around the house knowing that your LO is safe and entertained. Great price for something that is literally life-changing without breaking the bank.
Incredible Ingenuity Portable Baby Swing
Ingenuity Portable Baby Swing is another great low-cost choice. It’s very comfortable, has super cozy fabric and comes with removable padded head support. Sturdy construction, non-slip feet, and five-point harness provide the safety features parents demand. The harness is tacked away so it doesn’t pinch the baby.
The toy bar is removable. Believe or not, this is an important feature parents are looking for. It makes so much easier to put in or take out a baby out of a swing, especially when the baby is sleeping, the last thing you’d want to do is to wake them up.
It has 8 melodies and 3 nature sounds plus volume control. The music isn’t that bad, actually some parents like it.
The swing has 5 different speeds. It comes with a built-in auto shut-off timer. You can set it to 30, 45 or 60 minutes. If you don’t set the timer, it will automatically turn off after 90 min. This is for the safety of the baby as a baby as they are not meant for “prolonged” sleep. The swing motor is virtually a noiseless experience so you don’t have to worry that it’ll wake your baby up.
The swing is battery operated only. It requires four D size batteries (not included). With the Hyber-drive technology built in which extends the life of the batteries, they should last for about 2-3 months. So you don’t have to worry about changing batteries every week or so.
Folds up flat to take it anywhere. Easy to move around the house or travel with. Folding is very easy, all you need to do is squeeze a bar that’s at the bottom, below the seat and the swing will fold. However, it doesn’t come with a carrying bag.
It doesn’t lock into a stationary position but when the baby is in it the swing sits still. Also, it doesn’t have a vibrations mode. The minimum weight is 6 lbs and maximum 20 lbs.
This swing swings front to back only.
Easy to clean. The seat pad is machine washable on the gentle cycle.
Please keep in mind that this swing will operate correctly with the baby in it and you NEED to give it a slight push after turning it on and then set the swing speed. If it starts to act erratic it’s probably a sign that the battery needs to be changed. If you follow the instructions, you should not have any issues with it.
All in all, a great inexpensive swing, although it doesn’t lock into a stationary position and it doesn’t have a vibrations mode that doesn’t take away anything from it. Because whether you need those features or not depends entirely on you. What’s important is ease of use, comfort, and safety for your baby and this swing delivers on that.
Price Range: $79.99 – $69.99
Most Popular My Little Snugapuppy Swing
My Little Snugapuppy swing is the most popular and least expensive model from the Fisher-Price Cradle ‘n Swing.
It comes with the following features:
- 2 position recline with 3 adjustable seat positions: right-facing, center, left-facing
- SmartSwing Technology: The swing actually senses baby’s weight so speeds won’t slow as baby grows. And it starts without a push.
- 6 swing speeds
- 2 swinging motions to soothe baby: side-to-side cradle or traditional front to back motion
- 16 songs, soothing nature sounds
- Machine-washable seat cover with deluxe My Little Snugapuppy™ body insert and head support
- Easy to convert to different positions—just press a button and turn
- Motorized mobile with mirrored globe; animal friends “dance” overhead
- Two convenient power options: use the included 120-volt AC adapter (so you save on batteries!) or 4 D batteries
- Legs fold for storage and easy room to room portability
- Plus there’s an airy canopy on the back of the swing too
- Age range: From infant up to 25 lbs.
Timer: The timer is functional but doesn’t have a lot of features. There is no feature that would allow you to set the swing to run for a period of time, say 20,30 or 40 min. However, it has a built-in safety feature which will stop the swing after 4 hours of usage. The mobile (rotating toy bar, music or sounds will turn off on its own after approximately 20 minutes.
Noise: It may be a bit loud when it starts, however after a few minutes when swing and motor are in sync it quiets down. After that, you can hear the motor running but it’s not too loud to wake up your baby. It won’t bother you either. It is quiet enough to have it next to your bed and have a good night sleep.
Every swing powered by a motor will produce some sound. So we won’t tell you that this swing is whisper quiet. It does make some sound when running, but again, it shouldn’t bother you or your baby.
Cleaning: Like every mom out there you may be wondering how easy it is to clean, after all, babies can be ‘messy’. Well, the seat cover comes off very easily and is machine washable, you can put it on a delicate wash and air dry it.
Folding, travel, storage, and moving: Easy to move around the house too. If you have a narrow door frame it may not fit through it. In this case, all you need to do is to collapse the legs which very easy to do and move it anywhere you want.
Please note: None of the Fisher-Price Cradle ‘n Swing swings have a seat that vibrates.
There are a number of reasons why parents buy this swing. To begin with, it has the option to swing front to back or side to side, which gives them more options to soothe even the fussiest baby. Or to entertain your LO and finally have the time to relax. Or have time to get things done around the house.
It has adjustable seat positions that grow with your baby. 2 settings; you just click a lever in the back to change it. One, fully reclined, perfect for infants. The second is upright, great when your baby has more control over their head, starts to explore what’s around them and perfect when you start feeding solids. Moreover, it has a 5-point harness to keep your LO safe and sound at all times.
AC adapter for a battery-free operation which is way better and budget friendly. And you don’t have to worry about buying batteries.
The bed of the swing is so soft and comfy even for the most sensitive LO.
It plays different music for sleepy time, chill time, and nature sounds with a volume setting and rotation options. Surprisingly, and it doesn’t happen too often when it comes to baby gears, both babies and parents love the music!
Babies love the mobile (toy bar with mirror) they enjoy looking at their reflection in the mirror and watching the mobile go around.
It keeps them entertained long enough, or they stare at themselves and the colorful, rotating animals until they fall asleep and finally giving mom or dad a much-needed break.
The cute and neutral colors are perfect for a girl or boy. Last but not least, for what it does, it’s worth the price. Available in different colors and design patterns.

Incredible Graco Gliding Swing
There are a couple of cool features about Graco Glider LX Gliding Swing. The first one that makes it unique is the way it swings, it doesn’t swing back to front, it mimics a gliding rocking chair which is very soothing for a newborn.
It glides nice and quiet and has a good amount of gliding/swing motion. The moments are nice a gentle. What’s more important is when you turn it off or change the speed. It takes a few minutes to slow down or speed up. It doesn’t stop right away. It slows down slowly and smoothly. Which is great if your baby falls asleep in it and you want to stop it without waking them up.
It has a 6-speed setting so that you can find the perfect glide from newborn to an older child. See the short video below; it isn’t the best quality but good enough to give you an idea of how it swings/glides.
Safe and sturdy: One of the safest swings on the market. The way it is designed and the shape of the legs make it very sturdy and practically untippable. It does have plush, comfortable newborn head and body support to ensure that your baby will feel comfortable in it. 5 point harness will keep them safe.
Both, newborn insert and the harness are removable, so you can adjust the space in the swing as your baby continue to grow.
The plush, roomy seat has built-in vibration with 2 settings so you can go from little vibrating to lots of vibrating. I’m sure that the vibration will help you to get your LO to sleep on many occasions. It also has three reclining positions, from reclining to more upright for older babies. You can adjust the recline with one hand.
Comes with cute little toy bar which has 2 little dogs attached to it. The toy bar isn’t the most sophisticated, but you can hang more toys on it if you want. The entire toy bar is removable; it snaps on and off easily, and you can change the way it is positioned. The two toys attach to it are also removable. So putting your baby in it and taking out is very easy. 10 classic melodies and 5 nature sounds will provide plenty of fun for your LO.
The controls on the Graco Glider LX Gliding Swing are easily accessible and operate.
Another cool feature is the timer. It allows you to keep the glider on only when you need it. It doesn’t automatically shut off. So you have to remember to set the timer on if you want it to stop after a certain time. You can turn it off at 15 or 30 minutes. If you don’t set the timer ON it will keep going on and on… until you turn it OFF manually.
There is the ON and OFF button along with the speeds settings. Buttons for the music or nature sounds and volume up and down and turning the music OFF. The vibrating setting is located in the front panel.
Easy to clean: The detachable fabric is washable and easy to slide back on and snap it back in place.
Here is the approximate footprint of the swing
- 37″ tall with the seat in the upright position, without the toy bar
- 29″ wide, and you need 36″ front to back for the seat to have room to swing
This swing can run on 4 D batteries, or you can plug it into the wall. The vibration runs on 1 D battery ONLY.
It doesn’t fold, and the seat is not removable. But this wasn’t a problem for most parents. Easy to move around the house between rooms.
It swings in one direction, front to back. If you need a swing that has an option to swing front to back and side to side see our review below of Graco DuetConnect Swing and Rocker.
Age and weight recommendations: From newborn up to 30 lbs. More or less 8-9 months, depending on how fast your baby will mature. Some parents even use it as a co-sleeper or bassinet. Just be sure to buckle your LO with the safety harness. In a way, you have 2 products in one with great options.
Overall a great product. Very soothing for the baby. It takes less space than a conventional swing. Glides very smoothly and is easy to use. If you need a swing with a small footprint and perfect swing motion this is an excellent choice.
